But do they know everything about links? Content freshness matters. Keeping your content up to date helps search engines understand that your site is accurate today. How relevant is your product page or category page to the search term? This is a huge ranking factor that’s often neglected. Stick to keywords that your products would genuinely satisfy. You’re not foolin’ Google. Try and write blog content for external websites, which will link back to your website and boost your domain authority. Backlinks are the foundation of Google’s algorithm.

The authority of the website or webpage linking to your site is also key. A few high authority links are far more valuable then many from low quality sites. If you have different sections of your site, or domains for each country, enter each one in the relevant directories: Google Places, Bing Business Portal, or any other directory that’s relevant to your region. The meta description is what appears as the description of a blog post in search engine results. This is the text that people will use to determine whether or not your post contains the information they are looking for. In the eyes of Google, you’ll earn a higher authority by having a better-functioning site, such as one that’s optimized for mobile devices, loads quickly, and has an optimized internal navigation structure.

Better alternatives to old school SEO methods

As much as it's important to try out new things and experiment with SEO, one thing remains constant -- the importance of title and meta tags. By using attractive subheaders, you can pique the curiosity of your readers and keep them engaged. User experience is important to search engines and one way they determine this is based on how easy it is to get around the site or the navigation. Use 3-4 internal links on each page, but make sure they are incorporated naturally within the body of the text. Don’t put lots of links in the footer or at the end of your content. Google will penalize you for this. When you are trying to get more links you need to think about quality, not all links are created equal and links from low quality sites will have little or no impact on your rankings.
