Once you’ve discovered your evangelists,
think about ways to nurture and encourage them. At the simplest
(and possibly most meaningful) level, find a way to thank them
for spreading the word about your company. The first step in a search optimization analysis is to understand our goals and objectives for performing SEO. Not all types of SEO are needed for each client. Some clients may benefit more, for example, from local SEO than organic SEO. The first step in an effective SEO strategy is understanding the client’s reason for search engine optimization. Keywords should be relevant. This means your site should be a satisfactory destination for users. How can you test your hypothesis? How can you get enough data to validate or invalidate your hypothesis? A test is valid if the objective, time frame and key results are clearly defined.
SEO is not actually changing the search engines
Trustworthy sites tend to link to other trusted sites, while spammy sites receive very few links from trusted sources. PageSpeed Insights is a
powerful tool to analyze the performance of your mobile site. It’s easy to use and gives you loads of insights into the loading speed of your site. Put in your URL and Insights will give you two scores: one for mobile and one for the desktop. Think about what happens when you type a query into a search engine. The results you get back are simply a series of page titles and descriptions. Figuring out which keywords you should focus on to get the most traffic to your site can be rather daunting. For many people, it’s hard to assess their chances to rank in the search engines.
Choose your keywords carefully
Understanding your audience and the entire consumer journey so you can be visible at the moments when it matters most is mission critical now. Stop using keywords in
your URLs. Why? Because if you don’t know how to optimize a page without slamming keywords into the URLs, you don’t know how to optimize a Web page. The more people that search engines see being interested in your content, the more weight they’ll give it and the higher it will rank. Google has drawn conclusions about user-behavior in search, realizing that searches prefer to see a variety of media formats for a given search query.
Can the canonical tag can hurt your search engine rankings?
The quality and quantity of links you have pointing to your site has a direct bearing on how highly it ranks in organic search results. Duplicate content isn’t necessarily a bad or wrong thing, apart from in the above example where it’s just straight up theft. Titles display what your page is about to both visitors and search engine crawlers, while meta descriptions summarize the content of your page. Your title tags and meta descriptions must include the keywords you are trying to rank for. Gaz Hall, from SEO Hull
, had the following to say: "You have to make sure that the topic, content type, and format resonates with your audience. Your headline has to be catchy, but also relevant. "
Indexing requirements often conflict with aesthetic requirements
When you’re browsing the web, the content you come across can come in a number of different flavors. Often, the nature of the content can tell you a little about the owner of the blog/website too. Either this is a website belonging to someone who is mostly interested in their visitors and who doesn’t care whether they ‘rank’ or not; or it’s content that is clearly aimed at Google, with the visitors as an afterthought. Relevance is a measure
of how appropriate a given page is for a given query. In the early days of SEO, this ultimately boiled down to what keywords were used in a query, compared to what keywords were found on an indexed page. Simply put, engagement is the ability to hold a user’s attention. In SEO terms, it is a measure of the amount of time spent on a page. Although Google hasn’t officially declared it, there is evidence to suggest that this search engine giant does reward sites with strong user engagement with higher page ranking. There are different areas of basic SEO you need to address in order to get onto the first page of google. Some of these factors you can't control - for example the age of your site apparently holds weight in the google algorithm. I've seen new pages soar though, so don't assume you're lack of first page success is just because your blog is new.
